Forgent Networks is suing 31 companies over their patent on digital image compression - specifically, JPEG compression. The list of companies is impressive, starting at Adobe and extending through Xerox. If they start winning these cases, there could be a huge impact - for one, a lot of companies will potentially owe a lot of money, and more importantly JPEG images will suddenly be verboten.
We already lost GIF's, now we're going to lose JPEG's? Jesus H. Christ in a Bucket! This is ridiculous.
