Gong hei fa choi

I sorta half-posted it yesterday, but let's do it for real today:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

It's the year of the Monkey.

I'm going out to dinner tonight with a friend, and if we can find a place we'll be eating in Chinatown. I've never actually done a traditional Chinese New Years banquet, and we can't afford a big production anyways, but to at least stay in "theme" the goal is to get a fish dish, a chicken dish, and a noodle dish, which should theoretically bring togetherness, prosperity, and long life.

I'm wearing a sort of brick-red shirt today, which is the closest I've got to any real red in my wardrobe. On top of that, I've got my grey sweater, which has a red collar. So between the two, I figure I'm good. (Red is a lucky color, you're supposed to wear some on New Years. You're also supposed to avoid white and black, since they're the colors of death. I've got on blue jeans and brown shoes, so I'm good to go. ;) )

(If I had remembered ahead of time I'd have rescheduled dinner tonight and eaten with my family instead, where I should be, but oh well, too late now. Chinese New Year celebrations last for a while, I'll do something with them next week. Yeah. And one of these days we'll do the full production - maybe next year we'll plan ahead, I can take a couple of days off of work, and we'll cook up a storm - dumplings and fish and chicken and noodles and everything else we're supposed to have. Hmmm. Now I'm hungry.)
