Number Portability Act

A new FCC rule is going into effect on November 24th, making WLNP - Wireless Local Number Portability - a reality.

What's that mean? It means from that point on, if you switch providers, you can keep the same cell phone number. Yay! In some cases, it'll even be possible to port a landline to a wireless number, it looks like. Nifty.
