Anyways, there were limitations - it had to be relatively easy to serve, and not need any prep time or cooking or even reheating, etc., so I know a lot of things just weren't going to happen... but still... the cookies and cakes and brownies, for instance, were all so-so. Good, yeah, I suppose - but I've had much better. Same thing for most things. The mozzarella was good, but I think no better than the fresh mozzarella they make at Balducci's, for instance.
The breads were ok, but not spectacular. Same thing with the cha siu bao (roast pork buns) - they were definitely above average, but I can't believe they're the best to be found in NYC.
Ultimately, I was expecting to be blown away by the food, and I simply wasn't. A lot of it was very good, but with such an experienced bunch of food lovers, I expected better.
Oh well. Maybe I should start contributing more actively, I could probably suggest several good places, or share comments or thoughts or whatever.
