Weekend Update: Sports

The weekend sports report from Brooklyn:

First off: THE GIANTS WON! I was shocked, and really pleased, to see the boys in blue suddenly remember what defense means in the second half of the game against the Redskins. After 2 and a half games of completely sucking on defense, the D suddenly came roaring back with a vengeance and completely stuffed the Redskins. Go big blue!

In baseball news, the Mets finally won and the Phillies lost today, putting the Mets in a much more comfortable 2.5 game lead. I was really getting worried that the Mets were going to completely melt down in the 2nd half of the season, but it looks like they're starting to pull it together.

On the roller derby front... not so good. The Brooklyn Bombshells were blown out of the water by the Bronx Gridlock, but not for lack of effort or heart. It was a little painful to look at the score at the end, but like all derby bouts, it was still a lot of fun to watch.

As usual, I took photos:

This time I focused on taking more photos of crashes and smashes and bashes. For your amusement, here are a couple of series/ before-and-after photos.

BEFORE: Coming in for the hit...
Coming in for the hit...

AFTER: Whoops. Maybe next time.
...maybe next time.

DURING: Nasty crash. Ouch.

AFTER (sorta): Yeah. Still ouch.

In closing, the Bombshells have the cutest new mascot ever:
Cutest mascot ever.
